Recent Updates in "Tilly's Rose Garden; Season: Spring"

I've done quite a lot of updates recently on "Tilly's Rose Garden; Season: Spring".

1: The Aspect Ratio has been 800X600 for every version of the game thus-far, but in spring (and I think from now on) it will be 800X660. The reason for this...?

2: ...I've added some buttons within the game arena.

  1. Save - Saves game
  2. Load - Loads game
  3. Index- Will have a small index of the basic "needs to know" to refresh memory during gameplay.
  4. Menu - Takes you to the main menu

3: Graphics update.
Every version of the game has had roses or rose-bushes in the corners of the arena, for spring I have a more Dalia/Daisy like flower taking up the corners, it's a nice change of pace and it makes things a little more interesting.

4: I've changed the menu ones again, (I had to remake all menus to fit the new aspect ratio) and it has another new button "Load Game", as it suggests if you saved your game you can load from where you saved. Keep in mind you only get on saved game and the next time you save the old will be over-written.

A few more which will be shown in a video:

So there are some of my updates!

Enjoy!

Stuff I'm working on!

I know it's been a while since I wrote something constructive...well that's going to change soon! I have had an idea for a longgggggggg time but never got around to it. I might make it a download-able though I'm not sure yet...Anyways..I've been working on some stuff lately and here's some of it!

The main thing I've been working on is a game called "Take Me to Your Leader", it's a point and click and the basic idea is to pwn alien ships. I'm making it more fun than that overall but for now that's the basic idea...Here's the Logo and a few screenshots...

A few technical things I can say is it will be a game with lives and health (for a change!), all graphics thus far are made in GIMP 2.8.14 ( Might make some things in 2.6), and the Music will be Legally Free from Jason Shaw....and yes you will hear explosions! Of course I am for a family friendly atmosphere and won't make it graphic at all it's all cartoony in nature, if you let your kids see Jimmy Neutron  then this is just fine for them to play....when it's ready!

Okay.. Another thing I'm contemplating is a drag and drop game where you "design" cars. I have made a logo for it but that's about it. (I have to learn how to draw cars now...uffff)

Before I'm accused of plagiarizing 101 Dalmatians, I wasn't trying to mimic their logo, and yes Morris is a dog and I call him a dalmatian but looks nothing like Disney...or to be honest he's not much like a dalmatian aside from spots either.

Now I draw him fuzzier even...!

Programs Used:

  • GIMP – Graphics
  • Goldwave – Conversion of Music to a .wav file.
  • Sony Acid – Sounds
  • Gamemaker – Game Construction; Image Editing
  • Calculator – Coordinates

Creator's Notes:

Features:

  • Drag and Drop Capability
  • 3 Bases to Choose From
  • 21 Topping Selection + Index
  • Delete-able Toppings Once Put On The Pizza Base.
  • Easy to Navigate Menus

Annoyances/Bugs:

  • Sometimes if you move the mouse as you are releasing the left mouse-button (dropping an object) the object does not fall but still follows the mouse. This can be remedied by clicking again. - This is more likely if you are using a touch-pad but it also happens with a normal mouse.

  • Not often, but sometimes a topping starts glowing after you drop it. This has only happened a few times while I was developing so it shouldn't cause you any trouble and it's not harmful you can just delete the dropped topping using right click.

  • If an object is too close to another (that has been dropped) and you go to move them again, they might overlap. Once overlapped you cannot pull them apart because though the image looks like a certain shape it's really on a square that is almost identical in size for a background; Because of this, if you click on one object it sees both as one. Just delete them and start over if you don't like how it looks. - This principle applies also to deleting.

  • Though images look on top of each-other when you are dragging and object they will always go on top. I don't think there is a way to prevent this.

  • For some reason the images look under the dropped images but when dropped it goes on top.

{Game Demo} Paisley Butterfly Virtual Piano (Jan. 7. 2015)

I've had this under my proverbial hat for a while, but never really took it out to play with...! But now I've done enough to release a demo. I hope you enjoy this brand new "game" by The Factoid Firefly Productions!

Creator's Notes:

Features:

  1. Can play up to 3 notes at once if using your computer's keyboard
  2. 2 octave piano
  3. Chord buttons for quick playing
  4. Ability to either click the notes or playing using the keyboard on your computer
  5. 1 Sound, that being an acoustic piano
  6. Custom Cursor

Irritations:

  1. Pressing multiple notes is buggy when including black and white keys together
  2. Pressing more than 3 notes starts to get sticky and it will cut a note or 2 out.

{Game Release} Tilly's Rose Garden "Extended Demo" (June, 7th, 2014)

Introducing the brand new extended edition of the "Tilly's Rose Garden Demo", with 5 new levels, bumped up graphics and once again featuring the music of "Summertime's End" I present to you:

Works in Windows, I don't know about Linux or MacOS.

DOWNLOAD

Note:
Due to my host being a private domain (borrowed space) you might get a notice saying this is a virus. This is because the server isn't a "known" source to downloads therefore considered unsafe. It is perfectly safe! No viruses or anything like that!

Programs Used:

  • GameMaker 8.0 - Game Creation and Construction, Minor Graphic Editing
  • GIMP - Graphics
  • Sony Acid - Free version - Sound Creation
  • Goldwave - Free Version - Converting MP3's to .Wav, volume adjustment, and clipping down songs for animations.
  • Mp3 Quality Modifier - Music Compression
  • Windows Movie Maker - Animation compilation.

Creator's Notes:

Updates:

  1. New Splash Screen
  2. 5 New Levels
  3. Each Level Has A Name (Ex: Level 2 is called "Yellow Path"); You can see the name if you play in windowed mode, it's written where the score once was.
  4. Updated Main Menu
  5. Updated Ending Animation
  6. New Cursor (Tilly's Wing)
  7. The Score Caption has been removed on the window (Not the scoreboard in the game itself)
  8. Graphic Boost (Specifically the rose points [without stems])
  9. New "Next Level" image (The circle you hit to go to next level)

Irritations:

  • Not really a bug but the shadow to the player-sprite sometimes touches the enemies and pointdrainers, watch out for that.
  • The Playable character still gets stuck sometimes on the smaller spaces, this is I'm convinced now part of the grid and can't be fixed (?).
  • Speed makes is pretty much impossible to get in those tight spaces that are only one block wide, use bigger areas for speed if at all possible even if it's 2 blocks wide instead of 1.
  • When saving your game don't delete the .sav file or else you will loose your saved game.
  • The Cursor still doesn't disappear when the game starts, I'm not sure how to "fix" this, I think I'm just too noob to know how to make it go away....*cough*..Moving on..

  •  Breakable-blocks and hammers.
  •  Sliding effect as if you are on ice.
  •   New sounds
  •  Snowing Effect
  •  Pick a Level Menu

Irritations:
  • The cursor doesn't do away after you start the game (I haven't found a way to fix this)
  • When you have other applications opened with the game you will hear yourself going over the buttons if you are in a menu.
  • If there is a 1 square opening you need to move around diagonally to get in. (This is because of the sliding effect)

  5. New Ending Animation - When the game is over you see the credits.
  6. New Point Transformers - These change the point-drainers in to point givers.
  7.  2 New points - These are a 60 point rose and a 120 point pansy, you only get these if you pick up a transformer for either/or/both the transformers.
  8. New blocks that smash when you pick up a hammer. - 2 blocks and 2 hammers.
  9. New Gates with keys that remove each gate that goes to a specific key. - 4 keys for different angled gates.
  10. New Music; Music has been allowed by Daniel Throssell of "Summertime's End" for use.
  11. New Load Screen
  12. New Scoreboard!
  13. For now, I have removed the self-moving blocks, they are pretty much in the way and didn't do much but look cool.
  14. For the demo there is a different splash screen.
  15. Controls can be either arrow keys or the standard gamer "WASD", just press whichever one you want to use.
  16. Each new feature has a new sound.

Irritations:

  • Not really a bug but the shadow to the sprite sometimes touches the enemies and point-drainers, watch out for that.
  • The Playable character still gets stuck sometimes on the smaller spaces, this is I'm convinced now part of the grid and can't be fixed (?).
  • When using speed the player is almost impossible to get in to small spaces unless you waste the speed, use bigger areas for speed if at all possible.
  • When saving your game don't delete the .sav file or else you will loose your saved game.

Old Release: Tilly's Rose Garden - BETA

Tilly's Rose Garden!

Introducing a brand new game!

Fun for all ages, “Tilly's Rose Garden” is an enjoyable overhead 2D platform game, similar to pac man in game play, lovely graphics all made in GIMP 2.8 and sounds made in Sony Acid (Demo version). This game is fun for all (even if it is a bit girly!).

Enjoy picking the flowers and avoiding point drainers and enemies, both moving and idle!

Note: This is still in development so there are still bugs and inconveniences!

Trailer:

Creator's Notes:

Edit: I noticed that the menu has a typo! That will be fixed next version.
  • Things seem to stick a bit because of the grid and transparency, if your player won't move in to each area smoothly try and lightly tap the movement key you are trying to use, if you don't budge at all then try to go another way, it's a bug I'm trying to see how to fix, but I think it's always going to do that because of the images it gets stuck on.
  • If you push on moving blocks they'll go out of alignment be sure not to do that!

  • I haven't been able to get the cursor to windows to go away even with "Display Cursor" unchecked, I'll figure out how to fix this eventually! - And to add to this, I'm still yet to learn how to make the cursor only appear in menus.

  • This Edition of "Tilly's Rose Garden" has no music, I might change this within the next fixed up version but for now it just has basic sounds.
  • All artwork is created in GIMP and all sounds are made in Sony Acid (Free Version).
  • To see how many points you have, you have to play in window mode, or full screen; If you press "f4" you will play in a total full screen (No user bar on the bottom or start menu will be visable) and can't see the points. - The points are visable on the upper left hand corner of the window border of the program.
  • Saved Games go in to a .sav file, be sure not to delete that when you see it, that's where your saved game is!
  • Going in the diagonal directions can cause the player to go out of alignment although not always, just a warning!

  5. Modifying or changing, no matter how extreamly unrecognizable in the end - No!

If you download, please give me a comment, good or bad, just please, if you have consturctive critique say it nicely, don't say I'm stupid or anything like that (people do things like that!).

OLD DEMO - Tilly's Rose Garden

This is a demo of a game I'm working on (Not promising a finish!), for now the object is to get all of the flowers then go to the circle to get to the next level! But don't touch the scarecrows or you'll have to pick them up all over again!

Creator's Notes:
The things are sensitive to touch in this game, if you touch the circle or scarecrows at all the level will be stopped and he next action will happen (restart or next level).

The player gets stuck on the mazes when it's a tight fit, I'm not sure why but I think it's how the program's room-grid works.

The "X" button to close the program for some reason doesn't work, use Escape (Esc) to close.

The Game Goes in to full screen mode and it's size adjustable  if you wish to make it bigger.

You can go to the next level whenever you want, you'll just not get all the points if you don't pick them up.

How To play:
You use the arrow keys for movement, the name of the key it the direction you go (up = up etc.)

Download Here

Programs Used:
GIMP - Art
Sony Acid (Free Version) - Sounds
Gamemaker 8.0 lite (Free Version of Gamemaker) - Putting it together and making it playable.

Enjoy!

Comments on what you think, how it could be improved, or other like bugs or the like are all welcomed!
